  • F.A.Q: Digestive Enzyme Questions

General questions relating to the application and use of supplemental digestive enzymes

    14. What foods (substrates) do enzymes act upon? - Top

Different classes of enzymes act on different foods.

The class of enzymes known as PROTEASES act on protein; AMYLASES act on carbohydrates; and LIPASES act on fat (lipids).

A good digestive enzymes should contain all three of these enzymes.

If you are trying to do a comparative analysis of different digestive enzyme products, you should evaluate their ACTIVITY LEVEL using the Food Codex standards. All of this information for Enzyme Essential products is shown on the PRODUCT PAGES on the Enzyme Essentials web site.

If you have not done so, I recommend taking The Digestive Enzyme Tour located on the Enzyme Essentials web site. This also leads you to an in-depth look at each of the three enzyme classes mentioned above.
